This is our goofy, casual, people-loving, exotic Russian Blue cat, Zeke. We are all about the exotic…
On Friday, as the people that live in the house were coming into said house after school, Zeke decided that he wanted to go out- and then he changed his mind and thought he would shimmy under the garage door before it got all the way down and come back in, because he is a cat. (Our sensor on the garage door is very low, so it always goes back up if he crosses the sensor path.) He must’ve been down extremely low, and disgustingly, the garage door came down on our poor cat, with his head inside the garage and the rest of his body outside. Our sweet and gracious neighbors witnessed this disturbing scene and ran over to ring the doorbell and tell us about Zeke. Paul got the door up and our little kit kat was motionless and breathing heavily/rapidly. It was so sad and awful to have him laying there on his side suffering and there really was not a thing we could do for him—definitely not a good feeling. We thought there could be no hope for our cat.
Paul went through the phone book and got ahold of a vet who said to go ahead and bring him in—we thought for sure that would be the end for Zeke, his neck had to be broken. Our sweet neighbors brought a board over and helped us gently get the cat onto the board and into the car. Paul and Curtis got to the vet’s office, where they got him some fluids and gave him a cortisone shot. We did not want to get hopes up, because it did not look good…
The office called an hour later and said he was moving his back legs a bit , then the vet called an hour after that and said Zeke was up on all fours! Paul went back down with Kylie-who’s heartbroken tears had turned to sheer joy- to retrieve our very mellow, but very alive cat! He was a bit on the wobbly side, but is loving his newfound ability to be able to rest anywhere without being “invited” to get off of a bed, and to get petted and loved every time he makes an entrance…
All in all, I still can’t believe that our cat is purring, walking, eating, alive! I’m so thankful for nice neighbors (so sorry for that grotesque image they had to witness) and for a nice vet, who actually refunded $30 to Paul when he came for Zeke! You just never know with cats…
